Among the highlights of the new version of Facebook Messenger for Android and iOS functions are "viewed" and "sent" to display their location and whether or not a user read a message.
Thus, a user can monitor how many of their messages were read by a particular contact and know where he stands. It was harder to hide from his colleagues, who in addition to knowing whether or not you read a message, you can look in person to give an earful. Fortunately, the sharing of location may be disabled.
